Brooks started racing at the age of 10 in July 2000.  That first season, Brooks had a few feature wins at the local level.  He was not able to race much in 2001 as the local track closed and we had to drive to Tyler, TX to race.  We had no idea how much traveling was down the road.
The 2002 season brought more challenges as Brooks moved up to the Junior 2 class.  More power, more speed, and much more competition!    With an out of date chassis and an inferior motor, Brooks was relegated to mid-pack finishes most of the season.
In the spring of 2003 we bought a 2001 Phantom “Nemesis” chassis.  Though it was used, it had only been raced a few times.  This chassis combined with a new motor from Paschal Racing Engines proved to be the turning point for Brooks.  Once we figured out the setup, Brooks seemed pretty much unstoppable.  He won 12 of 13 races at Fate Speedway in 2003.  These wins were in the Junior 2 unrestricted class as well as in Stock.
In 2004, Brooks had 6 more feature wins.   He was able to run all but one of the regional points races sanctioned by the International Kart Federation (IKF), picking up three runner-up finishes on his way to a 3rd  place points finish for region 4B.  Brooks also participated in the IKF Speedway Grand Nationals held in Dubberly, La.  He finished 8th in Jr. 2 restricted and 12th in Super JR. 2 Unrestricted against some of the best kart racers in the country.
One of the highlights of 2004 for Brooks was participating in the Red Bull Driver Search .  From hundreds of participants, Brooks emerged as the #1 qualifier in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.  This advanced him to second round of the run-offs held in Massachusetts.  Even with his lack of experience in a road racing kart, Brooks was able to stay above the average on lap times.   Though he did not advance to the third round, it was truly a great experience!
2005 saw Brooks electing to move up into the Stock class.  Although we did not race much, he was able to pull of some good results.  Brooks had several feature wins at Fate Speedway.  The high points of 2005 was Brooks’ long overdue first regional IKF feature win and making the feature in Stock Medium at the Tulsa Shootout.§
